Acknowledgement Lenny Roberts

We at Stand Still Music would like to acknowledge one of our special family members; the late Lenny Roberts the man behind Street Beat Records, Bronx New York. Although Lenny passed in May 1996; there would be no Stand Still Music without him. He was the one that talked to me countless times about what records to buy/sell, how to market them and the behind the scene work needed to be successful. There were so many times I would go over to Street Beat Records on Pugsley Avenue in the Bronx (under the train station – Parkchester #6 train) and talk for hours. The store was not open to the public and only a select few could come in (Lenny aka Len Funk, Biz Markie, Lou and a handful of others). Lenny made sure of that; we would talk and listen to all kinds of music.

Lenny Roberts was responsible for Stand Still Music selling records at the legendary Roosevelt Hotel record Show that Dexter Campbell promoted. That was an awesome time, so many of the heavy hitters would be there … Biz Markie, Q-tip, PM Dawn, Pete Rock, Large Professor, Buckwild, T-Ray, Diamond D, the Count, John C, Danny Dan, Kool Herc, Big George and so many others to name. Lines would be out the door and Dexter was the first that I know to promote an all Soul Record Show. So many overseas record lovers were there and it was by far one of the best shows in this country .

Great times when records were plentiful and my other brother Len Funk would hook up some of these music legends with some funky beats. Lenny “Street Beat Records” was right there along with his daughter Cheryl .. with sealed Meters records, Skull Snaps album, 24 Carat Black album, Boobie knight Universal Lady album and much more.

Lenny was a one man operation when he was releasing the Street Beat compilation albums and Len Funk and I miss you like crazy. We laugh and reminisce about so many adventures we had. We will never forget you buddy and all the love and support you showed us; there will never be another Lenny Roberts.

Rest in power my brother we will always try to make you proud,

       Craig & Lenny
